Fat Tire Massive Presents the One Communications MTB Race Series
Another fun filled MTB Season starts! The 2020-21 season has a few very significant firsts. On the plus side, we have our first Title sponsor, community sponsors and our strongest group of sponsors supporting this volunteer community effort! We also are doing our first race awards right on the day after each race. On the less positive side, we had our first foray in managing an event with the ever present COVID menace. With the solid support of the BBA, The Parks Department, Bermuda Timing and our awesome support team, it was a beautiful event on a perfect day.
As has become tradition, the Arboretum was the season opener. The pristine park allows for smooth riding over the whole track with little technical skills needed. But the one mile course has 81 feet of climbing crammed into a couple of very steep sections so the heart does flutter a bit!
The competitors were very supportive of the required procedures and I want to thank everyone for cooperating with us to make it a safe event.
The classes were well represented with Open 60, Open 30, 13-16 and 12 and under for male and female offered.
In the Open 60 class, two up and coming road bike racers led the field for the entire race with one grabbing the KOM (fastest lap 3:46) for the course. Alexander Miller and Liam Flannery stalked each other for the hour long event, each timing the final surge for the win. At the last lap, Liam snapped his chain during his attack and ended up running the final lap for third place. His mishap allowed Alan Potts to continued his tradition of keeping up with the young guns placing second.
