REPORT

Coney Island Park hosted the fourth round of mountain bike cross country racing. 102 timed competitors and 22 non timed juniors enjoyed another bit of luck with glorious weather amidst the never-ending series of windy and rainy days we have suffered through.

This is the second time ever that MTB has used this park. 9 years ago in windy weather, with about 20 odd racers, a 4x4 elimination style race was held there.

For the fourth race, Open 60 was setting up to be a repeat result. Kevin Smith has proven to be a strong competitor and is looking unbeatable, but today things changed. Was it the dropped chain? Was it the extremely technical aspects that made Coney the new favorite with the racers? Was it Alan Potts just finding a new level of performance? Whatever happened, Mr. Potts got a huge win today finishing almost 2 minutes ahead of Kevin. James Holloway edged out Hans Hirschi for third and special kudos to Manning smith for most improved finish coming in fifth after finishing behind his dad in the last race!

A new faces lit the podium in the Open 30 category as well with triathlete and former mountain biker, Andrew Davis, barely beating Justin Horsefall and Daniel Ringer who finished second and third respectively in a huge sprint finish.
